On October 27, 2019, Jumia Kenya Managing Director Sam Chappatte announced a renewed partnership with Postal Corporation of Kenya (Posta) to expand its delivery network.
The deal will enable Jumia customers to pick their orders from about 625 post offices countrywide, leveraging Posta's extensive network to increase customer confidence and adoption of e-commerce nationwide.
According to Chappatte, the post office is at the core of last mile delivery, a concept that has proved challenging to retailers and institutions with customers spread across the region.
Notably, a similar partnership was attempted in 2015 but folded due to lack of capacity. However, four years later, the two firms believe significant changes have occurred to warrant a re-union.
