On October 27, 2019, a police raid in Nairobi led to the arrest of seven suspects and the recovery of 151 smartphones, two laptops, and a tablet from Mfangano Street.
The mobile phones are believed to have been stolen or robbed from owners in the city, and police are now warning the public against buying electronic gadgets from unregistered dealers.
Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti stated, "Some are facing murder and robbery charges," highlighting the severity of the issue.
Police are handling hundreds of cases where people are facing charges for handling stolen property, and Kinoti emphasized the risks of buying electronic devices from suspicious outlets, saying, "It is risky and dangerous to buy any electronic device from suspicious outlets. Most are those who buy stolen items from armed gangsters who have violently robbed innocent citizens and in the process kill and maim them."
Police are urging anyone who may have been robbed or had their mobile phone stolen to visit Central Police Station to help identify the recovered gadgets.
