On October 27, 2019, the Kibra constituency was abuzz with political activity as various aspirants vied for the attention of voters ahead of the November 7 by-election.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's ODM party was at the forefront of the campaign, with a convoy of supporters snaking its way across the constituency and making stops at several points to address jubilant party supporters.
However, the ODM brigade's entry into the venue of a planned political rally was met with resistance from Ford Kenya supporters, who had initially booked the space.
ODM supporters insisted that Ford Kenya could only have the venue after Raila Odinga had spoken, leading to a tense stand-off between the two groups.
Despite the initial resistance, ODM eventually had its way, with Raila Odinga taking to the podium to drum up support for his party's candidate, Bernard Imran Okoth.
In a speech at Bukhungu grounds, Raila appealed to voters to reject other contestants who he referred to as 'visitors to the constituency driven by greed and with nothing to show.'
The by-election is set to take place on November 7, 2019, with ODM and Jubilee parties vying for control of the Kibra constituency.
