On October 27, 2019, Odibets, a leading betting firm in Kenya, announced its commitment to empowering local football clubs through grassroots partnership deals.
According to Aggrey Sayi, the country marketing manager at Odibets, the kits initiative has seen ordinary football clubs acquire jerseys across the 47 counties in Kenya.
Since its inception, Odibets has distributed over 35,000 kits to local clubs, with many hailing the initiative as a masterstroke.
"The Odibets kits initiative is a grassroots movement that seeks to connect and associate with ordinary football teams across the country as our name suggests," Mr. Sayi noted.
He added, "We want to be associated with 'ordinary' brands in the grassroots although we cannot rule out partnerships with bigger teams."
Odibets has also partnered with like-minded organizations, such as Atotos, linked to former Harambee Stars Tactician Jacob Mulee, to help upcoming stars showcase their talent to Swedish football scouts.
Regarding the status of their license and the future of betting in Kenya, Sayi stated, "As Odibets, we don't want to mess with the laws of the day. We have seen how they can tackle you, adding that their license is validated as they continue to abide by the rules and laws set by the regulators, parliament, and tax authorities."
