Published on October 27, 2019, by Joe Babendreier, a renowned author, the story of Ananias and Sapphira has been a subject of discussion for centuries.

The Acts of the Apostles tells us about the tragic fate of Ananias and his wife, Sapphira, who attempted to deceive the early Christian community.

They claimed to have sold a piece of land and donated the proceeds to the Church, but in reality, they were lying about the amount they received.

Peter, the apostle, confronted Ananias, saying, “Ananias, Satan has tempted you! Why are you telling a lie to the Holy Spirit?”

Ananias fell down dead, and a great fear gripped the congregation.

Three hours later, Sapphira entered the scene, unaware of her husband's fate. Peter challenged her, asking if the money they donated was indeed the price they received for the land.

Sapphira lied, and Peter warned her, “Why did you and your husband agree to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Listen! Can you hear the footsteps of those young men arriving now? They have just buried your husband. They will carry you out and bury you too.”

Sapphira dropped dead on the spot, and her body was carried out and buried beside her husband.

The story of Ananias and Sapphira serves as a warning about the evil of hypocrisy, where individuals deceive others and God by living a double life.
