On October 27, 2019, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i met with Sub-Saharan Africa's first all-female Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, expressing his admiration for their dedication to serving the country.
The team, comprising 48 commando officers from the Administration Police Service, graduated last month after completing a five-month physical and combat drilling program as part of their 15-month standardized training.
Speaking during the passing-out ceremony in Ngong, CS Matiang'i noted that the new team comes at a critical time when the country seeks to handle emerging security threats and hostage crises promptly and with precision.
According to the Interior CS, the officers are not only ready to thwart terror threats and attacks but have demonstrated unmatched expertise.
Dr. Matiang'i assured the team of government's support in their work through improved welfare, advanced training, and capacity building.
During the meeting, he promised to prioritize their welfare issues, stating, "I had the pleasure of having lunch with Sub-Saharan Africa's first all Female SWAT team. This formidable group of commandos are dedicated to serving our great country and I promised to prioritize their welfare issues."
