Published on October 27, 2019, the Astros were off to a strong start in the World Series against the Nationals. Michael Brantley and Jose Altuve led the team with seven hits each, setting the tone for the game.

Brantley continued to power the Astros' offense, singling with one out in the top of the first inning. However, Corbin got Alex Bregman to chase a change-up and struck out Yuli Gurriel with some good sliders.

Yan Gomes got the first extra-base hit of the game with a double to lead off the bottom of the first inning. But Urquidy escaped when Corbin put down a sacrifice bunt and Gomes couldn’t advance, Trea Turner grounded out and shortstop Carlos Correa made a nice play to nab a pop-up off Adam Eaton’s bat into shallow left field.

Corbin settled in for a much cleaner effort in the second inning, firing only 9 pitches to get through the bottom of the Astros lineup after needing 26 pitches in the first inning.

Urquidy was dominating the Nationals with a lot of 95-mile per hour fastballs and sliders, using just 24 pitches to get six outs. Manager A.J. Hinch had expressed his desire for Urquidy to go five or six innings, which would have minimized the need for additional pitchers.
