On October 26, 2019, Sony Sugar secured their spot in the Kenyan Premier League after a crucial match against Kisumu All Stars in Awendo.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, providing a much-needed relief to the financially-stricken millers who were at risk of relegation after skipping their previous two consecutive fixtures.
John Mwita gave Sony Sugar an early lead in the first half, but Gerishome Arabe equalized from the spot three minutes into the second half, securing a draw for Kisumu All Stars.
Despite the draw, Sony Sugar's efforts were enough to retain their league status.
Kisumu All Stars coach Henry Omino expressed his team's disappointment, stating, "We played well and tried very much to win but we were unlucky once more. The players were not very aggressive and we missed most of the clear goal scoring chances."
Meanwhile, Chemelil Sugar continued their poor run in the league, falling 2-1 to Kakamega Homeboyz in Awasi, just a week after dishing out a walk over to Bandari.
Shami Mwinyi and David Odhiambo scored for Homeboyz, while Kakamega Homeboyz moved level on points with Tusker, who suffered a 1-0 defeat to Ulinzi Stars in Nakuru.
Ulinzi Stars' Daniel Waweru scored the winning goal in the second half, securing a crucial victory for the soldiers.
Elsewhere, KCB leapfrogged Tusker into second place after beating Zoo 2-1 in Machakos, while Nzoia and Kariobangi Sharks shared the spoils.
