Published on October 27, 2019, Homeboyz kicked off the 2019-20 Kenya Cup season with a 26-13 win over Kenya Harlequin at the Jamhuri Showground.
Homeboyz scored two converted tries in each half, showcasing their strength and determination. Kenya Harlequin, under the guidance of new coach Dominic Habimana, struggled to keep up with the pace of the game.
“Today Homeboyz came prepared. They were strong as usual so we’ll go back to the drawing board and sort out the things that didn’t work for us,” Habimana said in a post-match interview.
Kenya Harlequin lamented poor decision-making and the absence of their playmaker Eden Agero, who was missing from the game.
Homeboyz took a 16-8 lead at halftime after scoring a converted try and a penalty, while Kenya Harlequin managed an unconverted try and a penalty.
In the second half, Homeboyz extended their dominance, with Leonard Mugaisi scoring a converted try to stretch their lead.
Ervin Asena compounded Kenya Harlequin's woes with a penalty, but Patrice Agunda reduced the deficit with a try that Pius Shiundu failed to convert.
Meanwhile, at the Kakamega Showground, Kabras Sugar thrashed Kismu RFC 89-0, with Timoci Sinaite scoring a hat-trick of tries. The three-time Kenya Cup runners-up scored 15 tries to go top of the Kenya Cup standings with a bonus-point win.
At the ASK Nakuru Showground, Menengai Oilers dispatched Nakuru RFC 31-5, with coach Gibson Weru praising his team's ability to master the slippery pitch.
