Belgium has been without a fully functioning federal government since December 2018, when a coalition led by Charles Michel collapsed.
Michel, who had announced his intention to step down by November 1, has stayed on as caretaker premier until now.
On Sunday, King Philippe is expected to formally announce the nomination of Sophie Wilmes as the new prime minister.
Wilmes, an ally of Michel's and a member of parliament since 2014, was chosen by a ministerial committee.
Belgium has a reputation for political crises, including a record 541-day period without a government in 2010-2011.
