Clashes between the Siria and Ilwuasi Ngishu clans of the Maasai community have left six people injured, including a police officer, at the Nkararo-Enooretet border in Transmara, Narok County.
According to reports, the police officer was among those deployed to separate the warring groups, but was also injured in the clashes.
Interior Chief Administrative Secretary Patrick Ole Ntutu condemned the ongoing fighting, warning those at the forefront of the clashes that they will be arrested.
“We will not tolerate government individuals who are going to cause insecurity in Nkararo…we are taking up the matter seriously and anyone found will be arrested and charged,” said Ntutu.
Despite efforts by the government to demarcate a clear border line to separate the clans, the move was not well received by one clan, leading to further fighting.
Tens of GSU officers from Keyian division were deployed to the area to contain the situation, but the clashes continued.
Those injured have been rushed to hospitals in Kisii and Bomet counties.
Regional authorities have warned the two clans against the clashes, with Rift Valley regional commissioner George Natembeya stating that the government will take stern action to restore peace.
