On October 26, 2019, the Court of Appeal made a ruling that has left many questioning the justice system in Kenya. Julius Wambua, a Machakos man, has been serving a life sentence for rape, a conviction that was largely based on the testimony of his own daughter, Dorcas.
However, in a shocking twist, Dorcas has come forward to confess that she was coached by her mother to lie about being defiled. In an interview on Citizen TV's 'Prison Diaries', Dorcas revealed that she regrets her decision and believes that her father was wrongly convicted.
Despite this new evidence, the Court of Appeal has upheld Wambua's life sentence, stating that he was rightfully tried and that there was no miscarriage of justice. The court also claimed that Dorcas was of sound mind when she testified against her father and that no other witness contradicted her testimony.
Wambua's lawyers are now seeking a retrial of the case, citing fresh evidence that will exonerate him from the rape allegations. The case has sparked a heated debate about the justice system in Kenya and the reliability of witness testimony.
