October 26, 2019, marked a significant shift in the music industry as Trina Mungai and Ivlyn Mutua, both signed under Taurus Musik, began to develop a rivalry.
Trina Mungai, who has been with the record label for some time, has only managed to release three singles, whereas Ivlyn Mutua, who was recently signed, has already released an entire Christmas album.
Trina Mungai's silence throughout the year has been particularly notable, especially considering her previous success with the club banger 'Shika' featuring Mayonde earlier this year.
When asked about her approach to her career, Trina Mungai stated,
"Most artistes are unable to recognise their strengths and weaknesses, the reason being they don’t take time to understand themselves and soul search,"
suggesting that she believes many artists struggle to understand their own abilities and limitations.
Despite her recent silence, Trina Mungai has been spotted working with producers Chris Adwar, Vicky Pon Dis, and Ilogos.
Ivlyn Mutua, on the other hand, has made a successful transition from the gospel industry to the secular world, collaborating with artists such as Atemi, Mordecai from H_art the band, Khaligraph Jones, Fena Gitu, and Sage.
In an interview, Ivlyn Mutua revealed that she is
"Expect a number of big collaborations,"
hinting at her plans for future projects.
Notably, Nigerian artiste Yemi Alade recently praised Ivlyn Mutua for translating her song 'Poverty' into Swahili, with Yemi Alade stating,
"I thank her so much. I mean, who needs poverty? Everyone wants poverty to get out of their way,"
highlighting the impact of Ivlyn Mutua's work.
