Reports of the Kenyan netball team being stranded in Cape Town, South Africa, during the 2019 Africa Netball Championship have been dismissed by Kenya Netball Federation president Immaculate Kabuthia.

According to Kabuthia, the Government ensured that the team was well catered for before participating in the tournament, covering all expenses including accommodation, visas, tournament fee, and air tickets.

“The Government paid for our accommodation, visas, tournament fee and the air tickets. The accommodation and meals were all catered for by the Government,” Kabuthia said on Friday.

She also addressed an allegation that a Cameroonian well-wisher bought them milk and bread and offered to accommodate them, stating that the team was actually staying at the Fomo Lodge and had a more substantial diet.

“We were in a hotel called Fomo Lodge. The team never fed on bread and milk. We used to have bread, eggs. Most of the times we had meat for breakfast and chicken for supper,” Kabuthia explained.

The Kenyan girls lost to several continental giants during the tournament, with their only win being 74-24 against Lesotho.
