On October 26, 2019, Uasin Gishu MCA Peter Chomba petitioned the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to probe officials from the Uasin Gishu county government over alleged bribery at the Eldoret wholesale market.

According to Chomba, officials from the department of trade and environment have been harassing traders at the market, demanding a Sh500 bribe from banana sellers in exchange for allowing them to continue operating their businesses.

Chomba accused Governor Jackson Mandago of abandoning voters who helped him ascend to power and urged the EACC to investigate and arrest officers involved in corruption at the market.

Chomba's petition comes as the EACC, led by Twalib Mbarak, continues to crack down on corruption in various counties across the country.
