On October 12, 2019, Moses Gichuri Waithera, a butcher at the Burma market in Nairobi, was deceived by Peterson Maina Kinyua, a local businessman, into giving him 107kg of meat worth Sh27,820.

Kinyua promised to pay for the meat via M-Pesa but disappeared after receiving it, leaving Waithera with a significant financial loss.

Waithera reported the matter to the Shauri Moyo police station, and Kinyua was arrested on October 23, 2019, at the Burma market.

On October 25, 2019, Kinyua was charged with obtaining goods by false pretense before senior principal magistrate Angelo Kithinji.

He denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh30,000. The case is set to resume on March 3, 2020.
