On Friday, October 25, 2019, political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi criticized a group of Mt. Kenya Members of Parliament who were opposing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
According to Ngunyi, the lawmakers were 'ignorant' for opposing the report before its final version was released.
He argued that the MPs should wait for the final report before deliberating on it, as its contents were unknown at the time.
"If BBI Kenya report is not out yet, what are we discussing? Central Kenya MPs are just exchanging ignorance," Ngunyi said in a statement.
His comments came after a total of 39 Jubilee lawmakers from the region vowed to oppose the report, citing concerns over inclusivity and representation.
The MPs, led by Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni, argued that the BBI report must address issues of equality in representation and empowerment of the people they represent.
They stated that the universal suffrage and equality of the vote remain cardinal principles within the framework of any governance, and that any constitution review must address the fair distribution of resources with regard to the number of people in a given area.
