On October 25, 2019, a heated debate erupted in Central Kenya over the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Report. Raila Odinga's allies have come out strongly against their Central Kenya colleagues, accusing them of hypocrisy.

According to the allies, the decision by Central Kenya MPs to criticize the BBI Report even before its release was immature and ill-informed. They argue that the MPs' concerns about being disenfranchised under a parliamentary system of governance are unfounded.

”When it comes to governance, we want the principle of one man one vote respected. We will not elect leaders through Parliament or [electoral] college,” Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura said.

ODM Chair and Minority leader in the National Assembly, John Mbadi, dismissed the Central Kenya MPs' concerns, saying they do not know what they are talking about. Mbadi accused the MPs of trying to scuttle the commendable job done by the BBI task force.

”We really don't know where they have got their views from. The BBI Team went around the country for months to give their views and whatever is in that report is the exact views of Kenyans not some parliamentary caucus, giving us ultimatum in parliament,” Mbadi said.
