On October 26, 2019, the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) men's Premier League champions Ulinzi Warriors embarked on their quarter-final play-offs campaign, beginning their matches away in Kisumu and Eldoret.

Warriors, seeking to reclaim the title that had eluded them for several seasons, faced Lakeside in Kisumu, while their opponents, Thunder, took on Eldoret in Eldoret.

Ulinzi Warriors had a strong regular season, finishing top of the standings with 43 points, earned from 21 wins and a single loss to Thunder. Their closest attempt at winning the title was in 2018, when they lost to Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in the final.

With a best-of-three format for the quarter-finals, Warriors needed two wins against Lakeside, who finished eighth in the regular season, to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
