Deep in the Maasai Mara, a 25-acre orchard has been transformed into a lush oasis, defying the harsh climate and drought that plagues the region. This haven, owned by Suraj, a passionate tree collector, is a marvel of nature and innovation.

As you step into the orchard, you are greeted by an assortment of flowers and herbs, giving it a vibrant outlook that contrasts sharply with the parched land surrounding it. The orchard is home to a diverse range of fruit trees, including avocado, coconut, tamarind, apple, tangerine, lemon, orange, pomegranate, mango, and cashew nut, among others.

Suraj's love for nature has driven him to create this orchard, which has become a source of income and a haven for wildlife. He has gone purely organic, refusing to use chemicals and instead relying on birds to control pests. The result is a thriving ecosystem where birds and insects coexist in harmony.

One of the key features of the orchard is its medicinal trees and herbs, including moringa, which is valued for its medicinal properties. Suraj plans to plant 100 moringa trees to meet the growing demand for its medicine.

Suraj's orchard is not just a source of income but also a haven for nature lovers. He has set up four rooms for visitors, charging Sh3,000 a night, and plans to introduce game drives and courses on herbal medicine and orchard management.

As you walk through the orchard, you are treated to a cacophony of bird songs, with species like the yellow-breasted weaver bird, lilac-breasted roller, and speckled mouse bird competing to be heard. Suraj's passion for nature is evident in every aspect of the orchard, from the way he tends to the trees to the way he shares his knowledge with visitors.

Suraj's story is one of innovation and perseverance, a testament to the power of nature and human ingenuity. His orchard is a hidden gem in the heart of Maasai Mara, offering a unique experience for visitors and a sustainable income for its owner.
