Published on October 25, 2019, the Kalenjin Council of Elders, also known as Myoot, has pledged to unite leaders from the North Rift in a bid to shape the region's political future ahead of the 2022 elections.

The council, led by chairperson James Lukwo, called on Deputy President William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi to work together, saying one of them could clinch the presidency in 2022.

The elders accused politicians of hampering reconciliation efforts and stressed that the community should front one candidate for president.

Addressing the press in Kapenguria, Mr. Lukwo said it was time for political leaders in the region to unite and form a formidable team to steer the county towards achieving its dreams.

“We have been disunited for so long and this has derailed us in terms of development. It is time we formed a united team for 2022 and beyond,” he said.

Mr. Lukwo expressed disappointment that some politicians from the region were out to scuttle efforts to unite the community and urged leaders to focus on development, ignoring petty politicians and propagandists.
