Published on October 25, 2019, the Kenya Interior Ministry has clarified that Monday, October 28th, 2019, will be a normal working day, contrary to reports claiming it was declared a public holiday to mark Diwali.

According to a statement released by the ministry, a gazette notice circulating on social media claiming Monday, October 28th, was announced a public holiday is fake.

“Kindly ignore a gazette notice circulating on social media claiming Monday 28th October 2019 to be a public holiday. Monday 28th remains a normal working day,” the ministry advised.

Diwali, a major Hindu festival, is celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains worldwide, marking new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.
