On October 25, 2019, South Africa's airport management company, Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), announced that it had stopped Zimbabwe's national airline, Air Zimbabwe, from using its airports over unpaid fees.

According to ACSA, Air Zimbabwe had failed to adhere to the cash basis terms for using airports owned by ACSA, and had been informed last week that it would no longer be allowed to take off from any of ACSA's nine airports.

"Air Zimbabwe has not adhered to the cash basis terms for using airports owned by Airports Company South Africa (ACSA)," said the airport manager in a statement.

The airline was required to pay ACSA cash once a week to cover landing fees, parking, and passenger service charges for its weekly flight into Johannesburg, but had failed to do so.

As a result, Air Zimbabwe's only serviceable plane was banned from flying into Johannesburg, its only international destination, and the airline's international operations were severely impacted.
