On October 25, 2019, Ghana's Football Association (FA) named Kurt Okraku as its new president, replacing Kwesi Nyantakyi who stepped down following a corruption scandal.
Okraku secured the position after defeating former FA vice president George Afriyie in a second round of voting by 120 delegates.
The scandal, exposed by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in 2018, revealed widespread corruption and bribery within the FA, prompting the government to describe it as "gross malfunctioning".
The fallout from the scandal led to the creation of a "normalisation committee" to oversee reforms before a new president could be elected.
Former FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi was banned from football for life by FIFA in October 2018 after being found guilty of bribery and corruption.
