As the KCPE exams approach, 15-year-old Floys Opisa's health crisis has put her future in limbo. The student at Mission of Hope primary School-Kiamaiko in Huruma has been ailing since the August holiday and has been in and out of several hospitals.
According to her father, Julius Omukote, Opisa was first taken to a local clinic in Huruma, where she was diagnosed with asthma. However, the treatment failed, and she was referred to the MSF clinic in Mathare. From there, she was sent to a hospital in Kiambu, where the doctors again failed to diagnose her illness and referred her to Kenyatta National Hospital.
It was at KNH that Opisa was finally diagnosed with a heart problem and had to be admitted. Doctors say she had an artery blockage that caused her heart to enlarge abnormally. After 11 days of treatment, Opisa was discharged, but her father is now facing a daunting challenge: paying the Ksh. 31,000 medical bill.
Omukote, a handcart pusher, is now calling on well-wishers to come to his aid so that his daughter can sit her upcoming KCPE exams. Those who wish to help can send their donations to Pay Bill Number 856400, using Omukote's number.
