Published on October 25, 2019, four Chinese contractors who were arrested in Tanzania for delaying the Sinza River project have been released on bail.

According to reports, the contractors were given a 10-day deadline to complete the project, which was initially set to take 18 months.

Regional Commissioner Paul Makonda announced the release of the contractors, stating that they had been given a deadline to complete the project and had assured him that they would increase the workforce and equipment to meet the deadline.

Abubakar Kunenge, the regional coordinator of Dar es Salaam, had earlier stated that contractors who failed to meet the deadline would be held accountable.

However, the contractors were released on bail, with Makonda urging them to return to their work sites to complete the project on time.

On October 22, 2019, Makonda had announced that contractors who failed to meet the deadline would be given a 5-day ultimatum to comply or face dismissal.
