On October 25, 2019, a bitter dispute erupted between Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti and Sarah Wairimu, the widow of slain Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen.

At the center of the controversy is a contempt of court case filed by Wairimu against Kinoti, who she accuses of disobeying court orders issued on September 16th.

According to Wairimu, Kinoti defied the court orders by inferring her guilt in the murder of Cohen, which she denies.

However, Kinoti responded by accusing Wairimu and her lawyer, Phillip Murgor, of engaging in a calculated move aimed at interfering with investigations and the trial process.

“The application is a deliberate and contrived scheme by the applicant and her lawyer to prematurely argue her innocence,” Kinoti argued.

He further claimed that Wairimu and Murgor have been using the media to give a different narrative of the case, and that they are the ones who are in contempt of court.

Kinoti insisted that he is entitled to issue public statements in regard to investigations and subsequent charges of any crime, citing the duty of law enforcers to provide full information where crime has been committed.
