On October 25, 2019, a significant operation led by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) resulted in the arrest of three female suspects in Ruiru.
The suspects, Rose Wambui, Mary Muthoni, and Tabitha Muhuha, were found with fake foreign currency worth Sh102 million in a house in Githurai Kimbo, Ruiru.
The counterfeit money, in the form of 100 fake Euro denominations, was discovered in a strongly locked safe box during a thorough search of the house.
According to the DCI, the detectives managed to unlock the safe box and found over 880,090 Euros in 100 denominations.
Speaking after the operation, Kiambu County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga cautioned Kenyans to be aware of fake notes currently in circulation in the country.
The three suspects were taken to Ruiru Police Station pending arraignment in court, and detectives launched further investigations into the discovery.
