Located in Nyali, Ashwin Patel's home is a haven for nature lovers, boasting thousands of orchids and hundreds of bonsai trees in full bloom.

Over the last 30 years, Ashwin has constructed five open-air 'green houses' where he grows his prized orchids. The orchids are also displayed outside these structures, creating a breathtaking sight for visitors.

Ashwin's passion for gardening began 12 years ago when he decided to grow orchids instead of buying cut flowers for his wife. His assistant, Peter Mutisya, has been helping him care for the miniature bonsai trees, some of which are over 40 years old.

One of the unique features of Ashwin's garden is the use of organic insecticide and fertilizer. He uses hops from homemade beer to attract and kill snails and slugs, and mixes cut grass with septic tank waste to create a natural fertilizer.

As you step into Ashwin's foyer, you are greeted by a stunning array of orchids in shades of pink, purple, and yellow, all looking fresh and pretty on marble shelves.

Ashwin's 'green house' patio is another marvel, with Peter Mutisya by his side. The patio features a semi-transparent green mesh tarp, which allows for the perfect amount of sunlight and misty water for the orchids.

On a switch attached to a brick pillar, Ashwin demonstrates how he turns on the misty spray, which is installed in all five of his open-air green houses. This ensures that his orchids receive the right amount of water, leading to blooming flowers that stay fresh.

With his passion for gardening and innovative approach to caring for his plants, Ashwin Patel has created a truly magical garden in Nyali.
