Located in the northern fringes of Lake Naivasha, Wileli House is a serene getaway that offers breathtaking views and exciting wildlife encounters. In October 2019, I had the opportunity to spend a couple of days at this property, which was founded by English couple William and Elizabeth in 2009.
Wileli House is tucked away deep in the woods within a vast conservancy, at the base of Eburu, a dramatic range of hills that stretches for approximately 15km. The property features six cottages, including two deluxe units and four suites, which are etched on hard rock and furnished with predominantly chic, uncut wood.
The main house serves as the restaurant, bar, and lounge, with a kitchenette that comfortably serves 20. Head chef Ezra Hassan is particularly masterful with beef steak and salads, and guests can also enjoy fresh fish from the lake just a stone's throw away.
One of the highlights of my stay at Wileli House was the opportunity to watch the sunset from the side overlooking the hills or watch the tower of giraffes grazing below. The property is also home to a variety of wildlife, including hippos, buffaloes, and zebras, which can be spotted on guided walks.
For birders, the conservancy is located along an active intercontinental bird migration corridor, and features more than 200 bird species, including some of the rarest Aves on the continent. The property is also a hikers' haven, with the undulating landscape of the nearby Eburu Forest.
Wileli House charges a flat rate all year round, making it a perfect getaway during the festive season. Whether you're looking for a romantic retreat or an exciting adventure, Wileli House is an ideal destination for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
