Kenya has had a festive October, with two national holidays just 10 days apart, but it seems some people were eager for a third one. A fake gazette notice circulated on social media on Friday, October 25, 2019, claiming that Monday, October 28, 2019, was a public holiday to mark Diwali.
The Ministry of Interior quickly sent out a notice asking Kenyans to ignore the fake gazette notice and confirming that Monday, October 28, 2019, remains a normal working day.
Issue No. 168 of the Kenya Gazette does not yet exist, further debunking the fake notice.
Several people took to social media to express their opinions on the matter, with some still in denial about the fake holiday.
As Kenyans look forward to Jamhuri Day, it's essential to verify information before sharing it on social media to avoid spreading misinformation.
