On October 25, 2019, the Kenyan government clarified that Monday, October 28, was not a public holiday to mark Diwali.

The Ministry of Interior issued a statement on social media, urging Kenyans to ignore a fake gazette notice claiming Monday, October 28, as a public holiday.

"Kindly ignore a gazette notice circulating on social media claiming Monday 28th October 2019 to be a public holiday. Monday 28th remains a normal working day," the Ministry stated.

Diwali, a significant festival in Hinduism, is celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains worldwide. It typically lasts for five days and falls in late October and November.
