Paul Bitok, the Malkia Strikers head coach, has hinted at dropping his bid for the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) presidency in 2022, citing concerns over the potential impact on his coaching career.

Bitok, a decorated volleyball coach with a rich CV, has been viewed as a prime candidate to succeed long-serving KVF boss Waithaka Kioni.

However, in a recent interview, Bitok downplayed claims that he is using his success as Malkia Strikers head coach to fuel his ambitions for the KVF presidency.

"I have dropped my dream for now because many people think I am engaging myself very much in the game to campaign for 2022 elections. I will now concentrate on how to improve the game and my record will speak for myself," he told Citizen Digital.

Bitok's proposal for a change in the national league format, which includes playing on a home and away basis with all matches played indoors, has been adopted by the KVF. The new format is set to be implemented in the 2020/2021 season, with the league concluding in May the following year.

The Kasarani Indoor Arena and Makande Gymnasium, Mombasa, will be used to host the league matches from next year, marking the end of outdoor matches.
