On October 25, 2019, a high-level meeting was held to discuss the recent visit by high-ranking officials. The CEO called the meeting to review feedback from the session and determine the next steps.
During the meeting, the CEO asked managers for their views on the visitors. Most managers replied that the visitors were impressed with the company's progress and provided useful insights.
However, one of the visitors had expressed concerns about the company's plans and forecasts, stating that they were 'rubbish' and needed to be changed. Another visitor had also mentioned that the head office was not 'impressed' by the company's presentation, especially since it was the last quarter of the year.
One manager, Ken, was particularly vocal about the visit, stating that the visitors had noted the company's hard work in tough circumstances. However, his comments were met with skepticism by other managers, who referred to him as a 'naysayer.'
When it was Josphat's turn to speak, he decided to play it safe and focused on the learning experience, stating that it was a valuable opportunity to see how the company's leadership thinks and what they expect from their team.
The CEO seemed to appreciate Josphat's response, but then revealed that he had been given a 'rubbish' report by the visitors and that the company needed to change its plans and forecasts. He listed 10 issues that he felt were the problem and tasked Josphat with creating a dashboard to address them.
The rest of the meeting was spent discussing end-of-year activities, including a party that was expected to cost over Sh6 million. Josphat's colleague, Ken, later approached him and expressed his concerns about the situation, stating that the CEO was trying to cover his behind by giving Josphat the dashboard assignment.
