On October 24, 2019, DCI detectives arrested 46-year-old Kavivya Mwangangi in connection with the murder of Father Michael Maingi. The arrest was part of an intelligence-led operation.

According to the DCI's official Twitter handle, the detectives recovered an application form filled by Mwangangi's accomplice, Michael Mutunga, to join the Illuminati cult.

Other incriminating items found at Mwangangi's rented house included a mobile phone used to steal the priest's money, blood-stained clothes, and a notebook with the names and mobile phone numbers of people suspected to be members of the cult.

While detectives are exploring the possibility that Maingi's murder was a sacrifice to the cult, they are also considering an alternative scenario where Maingi discovered the duo's dark secrets and was eliminated to prevent leakage.

Investigations into Maingi's murder continue.
