On October 25, 2019, Africa50 announced a partnership with Axian Group and SN Power to develop a hydro power plant in Madagascar.
The project, which aims to improve the lives of the Malagasy people, will include a 120MW hydropower plant constructed and operated on the Ivondro river. Access lines, roads, and other infrastructure for neighboring villages will also be repaired.
Expected to be commissioned by 2023, the project will provide reliable and affordable electricity to over two million people, enabling Madagascar to transition towards renewable energy and reduce the cost of electricity.
The project is expected to create up to 1000 job opportunities during construction, and both Africa50 and Axian Group CEOs have expressed their optimism towards the project, citing its potential to provide electricity to the entire island while protecting the environment.
