On Thursday, October 25, 2019, Jumia announced the renewal of its partnership with the Postal Corporation of Kenya (Posta) to expand its e-commerce reach in the country.

The renewed partnership aims to help vendors on Jumia sell their products across the country by leveraging Posta's logistics resources. This means that Jumia customers from across the country will be able to order goods from Jumia at a reduced delivery price.

According to Posta's Courier Services General Manager, Elizabeth Mwaura, the company had previously lacked the necessary knowledge about e-commerce, which led to the downfall of their previous partnership in 2015. However, with the growth of e-commerce in Kenya, Posta has now realized the importance of partnering with e-commerce platforms like Jumia.

"As business went on, we realised that there are certain things that we needed to think about and correct before we move forward," Mwaura said.

Under the renewed partnership, 20 Posta stations across the country will be used to deliver goods, with plans to establish more stations in the future. Jumia expects the partnership to boost its Black Friday sales, which will run from November 7 to 29.

The partnership is set to bring a boost to Posta, which has been slowly replaced by technological forms of delivering messages. Mwaura noted that the partnership will help Posta get back to the business scene and have its employees more productive.

"Since there is so much substitution, we will have our people a hundred percent optimally productive because of the new business that is coming to the post office," she said.
