Jeremy Franklin, an 80-year-old British citizen, was admitted to Mombasa Hospital in July 2017 after suffering a stroke. He has since remained in a coma, with his medical bills skyrocketing to over Sh21 million by October 2018.
According to medical invoices, the hospital has been settling Franklin's inflated and non-transparent medical bills from his joint account with Bank of India, without his or his partner's consent. The bank's Mombasa branch manager, Manoj Kumar, is alleged to be at the centre of this scheme.
Franklin's guardian, Said Omar, has been blocked by the hospital and the bank from accessing the patient's medical files and account. Omar has sought court orders to access the information, but the hospital's head of security and administrator have thwarted his efforts.
Our sources reveal that Manoj Kumar, along with Dr. Swaleh Buketi and Administrator Abbass Nasser, are scheming to hold Franklin at the facility in a coma until his Bank of India accounts are drained.
Jeremy Franklin, a historical researcher born in 1939, has been living in Kenya for the past three decades. He is registered under British passport number 517899566.
Kenyan investigative agencies and the British High Commissioner in Kenya, Jane Marriot, are urged to act on this matter and prevent Franklin's death as a poor foreigner in Kenya.
