Kimani's journey with depression began in 2013, when he was just 17 years old and had cleared high school. He was joining Moi University, but his family was facing a difficult phase in life, with his father having lost everything due to poor investment decisions.

As Kimani struggled to cope with his anxiety, he became withdrawn and isolated, shutting the world out. He felt worthless and disappointed with life, and his thoughts were anchored to his family's struggles.

Things took a turn for the worse in early 2014, when Kimani contemplated suicide. He wrote his own eulogy on Facebook, posted a picture, and told his 'sorry self' RIP. He even considered three options to take his life, but fear took control, and he eventually settled for starving himself.

On the third day of his self-imposed starvation, Kimani's cousin visited him, and he was filled with a sense of relief, knowing that someone cared. However, Kimani was ashamed to admit his struggles, and he didn't tell his cousin about his suicidal thoughts.

Kimani's story is a testament to the importance of mental health awareness. He shares his experience to tell people who are going through similar struggles that they are not alone. Depression is not something that can be overcome easily, and it can recur in different forms, as Kimani experienced with panic attacks.

Today, Kimani is open about his struggles and is seeking help. He encourages anyone going through similar experiences to talk to someone, see a therapist, and find something they enjoy doing. He emphasizes that no one is immune to real-life problems, and it's essential to prioritize mental health.
