Kenyan singer Willy Paul has announced that he is too expensive for the Kenyan market, citing unfair treatment and low pay.
Published on October 25, 2019, Willy Paul expressed his dissatisfaction with the music industry in Kenya, stating that some artists are forced to compromise their standards to secure shows.
According to Willy Paul, the cartels controlling the Kenyan music market deny artists like Pozee shows and airplay if they don't meet their demands.
"If you call me for shows and don't meet my standards, I'm sorry, I will not come. First, I am expensive because my talent and gifts are expensive. Second, I invest a lot in my work, and you should pay me a reasonable amount," Willy Paul said.
Willy Paul also accused some artists in the industry of bowing to the cartels, while those who refuse to compromise are labeled as enemies.
"Cartels in the music industry are evil people. If you don't share a deal or what you have with them, you become their enemy. They will not give you shows. You show them you know your worth, you become their enemy," Willy Paul stated.
