On October 25, 2019, a businesswoman in Nairobi suffered a significant financial loss after being defrauded of Sh6 million by four suspects who sold her nonexistent parcels of land in Ruiru and Junja.

Nancy Njeri Muiruri, the victim, was approached by six individuals who used forged documents to obtain money from her.

Two of the suspects, Priscilah Nduta Gathuma and Peter Karanja Wabiu alias Stephen Gitau, were charged with obtaining money by false pretenses from Muiruri on Thursday.

Gathuma allegedly obtained Sh2.5 million from Muiruri on July 7 in Kasarani, Nairobi, and a further Sh320,000 from her.

Wabiu, on the other hand, obtained Sh1.5 million from Muiruri on two different occasions.

He is also facing a charge of making a document without authority, specifically a membership certificate of a self-help group.

The two denied the charges before Makadara senior principal magistrate Angelo Kithinji and were released on bond.

The other suspects who defrauded Muiruri are still being sought by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
