On October 25, 2019, Safaricom PLC announced the appointment of Peter Ndegwa as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective April 2020.
Ndegwa will succeed Michael Joseph, who took over as interim CEO following the death of Bob Collymore in July.
With over 25 years of experience in various roles within the financial services and fast-moving consumer goods sectors in Africa and Europe, Ndegwa is well-equipped to lead Safaricom.
"Peter brings a wealth of experience in General Management, Commercial and Business Strategy, Sales and Finance Operations," said Nicholas Nganga, Chairperson of Safaricom's board.
Nganga added that Ndegwa has a proven track record of transforming businesses, having overseen the operations of Diageo PLC in 50 countries and previously serving as CEO of Guinness Nigeria PLC and Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC.
Ndegwa has also worked locally with East Africa Breweries Limited, where he was a senior executive for eight years and played a key role in growing the business and winning several awards.
