On October 19, 2019, former Citizen TV news anchor Janet Mbugua marked a significant milestone in her career as she launched her new book, 'My First Time'. The book, published by Longhorn Publishers, is a culmination of her efforts to raise awareness about menstruation and break the stigma surrounding it.
Since going public about her battle with Endometriosis in March, Janet has been actively advocating for menstrual health and hygiene. Her new book is a continuation of this work, aiming to change lives and conversations around a topic that is often difficult to discuss.
Janet says, 'My First Time' is for everyone, regardless of their age, gender, or background. The book features stories from people who have shared their experiences with menstruation, creating a platform for open conversations and awareness.
As part of her efforts to address period poverty, Janet has announced that 10 per cent of the book's proceeds will go towards providing innovative solutions for access and information, as well as solutions to addressing period poverty. The Menstrual Hygiene Management centre is one of the beneficiaries of this initiative.
Janet's book is set to be a tool for influencing policy change, which she believes is deeply needed. The media personality will be discussing her book in more detail on K24's 'Up Close with Betty' tonight.
