Safaricom's New CEO: Peter Ndegwa Takes the Helm

On October 24, 2019, the Safaricom PLC Board of Directors announced the appointment of Peter Ndegwa as the company's new Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1, 2020.

According to the company's statement, Ndegwa joins Safaricom from Diageo PLC, where he served as the Managing Director of Diageo Continental Europe.

He takes over the leadership mantle from Michael Joseph, who had been holding the position on an interim basis since the passing of Bob Collymore in July 2019.

Following the announcement, Ndegwa's wife, Jemimah Ndegwa, took to social media to congratulate her husband on the new role, praising him in a heartfelt post.

As the first Kenyan to hold the position, Ndegwa's appointment marks a significant milestone for the company and the country.
