On October 24, 2019, the decomposing body of 13-year-old Solomon Inyama was discovered wrapped in a blanket in the sitting room of his mother's house in Nairobi's South B estate.

Annah Khahugani, a lecturer at the University of Nairobi's School of Nursing, was arrested after police found the body in her sixth-floor house.

According to the caretaker, Stephen Mwangi, he had been trying to collect rent from Annah, who had defaulted, and when he knocked on the door, no one answered. He then rang her up and heard the phone ringing inside the house.

After peeping through an open window, Mwangi saw the body lying on the floor and immediately reported the matter to the police.

Police were forced to cut the grill of the main door to access the house because Annah had locked it from inside.

Annah told police that her son had fallen and died in the house, and she did not take him to the hospital because she does not believe in hospitals.

She was detained at Industrial Area Police Station ahead of a planned visit to a psychiatric hospital for assessment of her mental status.

Area police boss Kimani Mitugo said Annah is in their custody and investigations are still ongoing.
