On October 20, 2019, a seven-year-old Asian boy was kidnapped from his parents' home at Kenya Re Estate in Kisumu County. The boy was forced into a red car and taken 200 kilometres away to a house in Suba South, Homa Bay, where he was held captive for five days.

According to Homa Bay County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Commander Daniel Wachira, the boy was rescued after a tip-off from members of the public. 'We sent a photograph of the child to his parents in Kisumu who confirmed his identity. We rescued him from the kidnappers,' Wachira said.

The boy was reunited with his family on October 25, 2019, and police are now piecing together information to reveal the motive behind the kidnapping. The main suspect, a woman, is being held at Kondele Police station in Kisumu.

The boy's mother alleged that her son could have been a victim of human trafficking, citing his physical weakness and the psychological trauma he experienced during his captivity. 'He was psychologically tortured, not given any food except a cup of porridge each day by the kidnappers,' she said.
