Kenya's Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i has pledged his support to the country's first all-female Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team. The team, comprising 48 commandos, graduated on August 9, 2019, after undergoing a 15-month standardized training program.

Dr. Matiang'i met the team over lunch on October 24, 2019, where he promised to prioritize their welfare issues. The team has undergone rigorous training, including the application of Israeli Krav Maga, multiple weapons handling techniques, and explosives and IEDs management.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony in Ngong, Dr. Matiang'i noted that the new team comes in at a time when the country seeks to handle emerging security threats and hostage crisis promptly and with precision. He expressed confidence that the team has the capacity to protect the people and secure the country.

Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai committed to progressively increase the contingent in the next intake. The officers, drawn from the Administration Police Service (APS), have demonstrated unmatched expertise in thwarting terror threats and attacks.
