Heavy rainfall is expected to continue in various parts of Kenya for the next seven days, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department.
Published on October 24, 2019, the department released a statement indicating that heavy rainfall of more than 20mm in a day would be experienced across the country up to Sunday, October 28.
The regions most likely to experience high rainfall intensity include Eastern, Central, and Coastal parts of the country.
Residents in these areas have been advised to be vigilant, as floods may also be caused by the downpour.
The department's statement warned, “The rainfall is expected to continue for the entire season with occasional breaks. Flooding and landslides may, therefore, be triggered by any substantial amount of rainfall in low-lying areas and over hilly grounds.”
Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa also stated that the ongoing heavy rains have so far claimed more than 20 lives and affected over 1,000 people.
