On October 24, 2019, Machakos Golf Club was abuzz with excitement as it hosted the third edition of the Captain's Prize, a one-day stableford event.

Outgoing captain Paul Musembi Katuku, who has served the club for three consecutive years, welcomed a field of 102 players from Machakos, Golf Park, Kenya Railway Golf Club, and Kiambu Golf Club.

The event was sponsored by Bristol Park Hospital, which not only offered prizes but also provided free medical check-ups and screening for blood pressure, diabetes, and general health issues to all the players.

Despite only 102 players being listed, Katuku announced that he would still be accepting post-entries in the morning and afternoon.

"We do welcome all those wishing to play even if their names were left out of the draw," Katuku said, thanking Machakos members for giving him the opportunity to serve the club as captain for the past three years.

To spice up the event, Katuku invited five professional golfers to join local pro John Kiondo, including Golf Park's Tony Omuli, who won the third leg of the Safari Tour at Royal Nairobi Golf Club.

Other invited professionals included David Wakhu, Joseph Karanja, Boniface Kosgei, and Vet Lab's Nelson Simwa.

Among the local amateurs competing were Ben Mumo, who won the Konza City championship with an impressive score of 39 points, and Larry Wambua, who was set to vie for the top prize.
