Safaricom Appoints Peter Ndegwa as CEO

Safaricom has announced the appointment of Peter Ndegwa as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1, 2020.

Ndegwa joins Safaricom from Diageo Continental Europe, where he is the current Managing Director, overseeing operations in 50 countries in Western and Eastern Europe, Russia, the Middle East, and North Africa.

With over 25 years of experience in various roles within the Financial Services and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods sectors in Africa and Europe, Ndegwa has a wealth of experience in General Management, Commercial and Business Strategy, Sales, and Finance Operations.

Before joining Diageo, Ndegwa served as CEO of Guinness Nigeria PLC and Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC for seven years, transforming the operations to deliver double-digit growth through investments in people, new brands, and business reorganization.

He also previously served as a senior Executive Director at EABL, a Diageo subsidiary, where he played a key role in the company's growth and was part of the team that won the Most Respected Business Award in East Africa for five consecutive years.

Ndegwa holds an MBA from the London Business School and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi. He is also a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).

According to Safaricom, Ndegwa's appointment is a testament to the company's commitment to transforming lives while meeting customers' needs and upholding its values of being Simple, Transparent, and Honest.
